Brooklyn Nine-Nine Recap: Season 2 Episode 1

This episode opens at a wedding with Jake (still undercover) giving a toast. Apparently, he has been undercover for 6 months and it’s clear that he has kind of enjoyed being “Jakey LadyHands”. A few mob kisses and jokes later, his operation comes to an end after a pre-planned raid with 15 mob guys arrested and one getting away.

Then we cut to the precinct with the usual suspects waiting for his return. Jake and Amy have a talk where they try to clarify any weirdness (He hadconfessed to her that he liked her season 1 finale). Jake said there that he didn’t mean what he said while Amy told him she was still dating her boyfriend.  Moving on to Boyle and Gina who had a one-night stand 6 months ago. Gina begs Boyle not to tell Jake about it but knows it’s futile as Boyle is like an over-eager puppy and tells Jake EVERYTHING… She spends the rest of the episode preparing herself for social downfall.

Terry, Santiago and Amy got some of the best laughs out of me this episode, acting out various scenarios as ordered by Holt. Holt ordered practice drills, and poor Terry was stuck as the person who did the role-playing with Santiago and Amy being the cops. These ranged from playing an unattended bag to a 7 year old boy, with Santiago and Diaz having to handle them as they would in a real-life situation. It got frustrating for them (but oh so hilarious) as Holt wouldn’t give them a reason initially, but eventually we learnt it was to improve the precinct.

What I love about B-99 is that it actually also depicts a bit of cop work. The case of the week was about Jake trying really hard to get the sole mobster that escaped. This episode however was about teaching Jake that he couldn’t control everything and that that was okay. That the most important thing was trying the best he could and not holding anything back. I guess that’s what made him confess again (duh) to Amy by the end that he did mean it (when he said he liked her). I guess this means we have our obligatory love triangle seeing that Amy still has a boyfriend.

Also Boyle didn’t tell Jake about his one night stand. Does this mean those 2 can actually become a real couple? Seeing as they ended in bed again… Guess we will have to wait and see.

P.S. Andy Samberg has a face that used to annoy the crap out of me but I have now strangely grown to love. I think it’s the fact that I really love this show. Do give it a try. I tried to pick the best lines below but that’s futile. I personally believe this show along with The Mindy Project has some of the best one–liners

  • “Cologne me” – Jake to Boyle
  • “I have to ask do you think Awesome begins with an O?” – Holt
  • “My husband says he hasn’t seen me smile in weeks.”- Holt Terry: “How much did you smile before that?”- Terry “Constantly.”- Holt
  • “There’s more where that came from. I got a real wet mouth.” o.o Boyle.
  • ”Freddie loved me. He implied that to me many times.” – Bianca to Jake
  • “Jake Peralta, NYPD. I need you to shoot down that plane.” Jake
